Opened in 1971 and designed by Tanya Moiseiwitsch, the Crucible Theatre has become one of the most famous theatres in the

world. Not as a theatre though but as the venue for the World Snooker Championships. Together with the Lyceum Theatre and the Studio Theatre, the Crucible Theatre Sheffield makes up the three theatres who are part of the Sheffield Theatre Complex (the largest complex outside London). The Lyceum Theatre is a magnificent listed building showing many traditional ballets and musicals and the Studio with a smaller capacity hosting touring productions.

Under a new multi-million pound sponsorship with 888.com, the Crucible Theatre will be home to the World Snooker Championships from the 15th April to 1st May 2006 with the likes of the crowd favourites of Ronnie O’Sullivan, Jimmy White and Matthew Stevens, with the likes of Steve Davis eyeing up a come back. After years of classic and enthralling finals, this year has a lot to live up too.

The Crucible Theatre Sheffield also has many productions set on the thrust stage with seating arranged on three side with no seat any further than around twenty five yards giving an excellent intimate setting. The theatre also has a restaurant located on the ground floor with a full menu although they do cater for light bites and meals.
